Ali Abbas Zafar landed a coup when he managed to sign Salman Khan as a wrestler in sports-drama Sultan. The choice of the leading lady was a tough one, as Salman’s love interest had to play a wrestler as well. After much deliberation, Anushka Sharma was cast and the director has not looked back since.Zafar said how Anushka’s single-minded dedication towards looking the part impressed him a lot. He added, “As the female wrestler on set, armed with an accurate accent, Anushka bowled me over.”Anushka trained for six weeks with three trainers: the first who taught her wrestling, the second one who worked on her strength training and the third was a physiotherapist who helped relax her muscles. Being a vegeterian, the PK star had a tough time adhering to a high-protein diet for muscle toning.”To be honest, I was a little concerned on how much would she be able to manage in just six weeks. But I have faith in Anushka’s complete commitment to her work. She has coped with a tough training schedule without a break with no complaints,” said Ali Abbas Zafar as reported by IANS.The film follows the story of Sultan Ali Khan, a wrestler who wins glories for India. And then later tries to make a comeback as an MMA fighter.Anuskha Sharma will return to Punjab after the release of the film, to complete the schedule of her home production ‘Phillauri’. Sultan hits the screens on Eid, July 6.
