first_imgGARDAÍ SAY THEY have carried out speed checks on over 32,000 vehicles in the first twelve hours of their Bank Holiday weekend road traffic operations.‘Operation Slowdown’ began at 7am this morning, with checkpoints across the country.Officials said that of the 32,178 vehicles checked between 7am and 7pm, 129 had been detected travelling in excess of a speed limit.Earlier, Gardaí said a monitoring location set up on Pembroke Road in Dublin’s south city centre had recorded 28 vehicles breaking the 50km/hr between 7am and 4:15pm.“We would urge everyone travelling on the roads this Bank Holiday weekend to travel safely,” a Garda spokesman said.Read: 77 killed on Irish roads this year – don’t be number 78 this weekendlast_img
